Review Text: Great ice for parties or if you have no ice maker!. Like a lot of folks, I wanted to try out a table top ice maker.... since I had been living in an RV for several months and missed ice in my drinks! The Insignia Ice Maker seemed like a good choice. Following the instructions, I washed it out and made a few rounds of ice in the machine. I will note here that this machine MAKES ice cubes, but will not keep them frozen! So, periodically, you need to take out the ice basket and store the cubes in a freezer. Okay. This machine is very simple to use. Add water to the reservoir in the back and turn it on! Yep, that easy. This works by drizzling water down the metal ice tray, which is really cold. Ice accumulates in the squares and then dumps when full. The water that does not freeze is sent back to the reservoir where it will again send the water drizzling down the ice cube freezer. Just note that this has the same mesmerizing effect as watching a clothes washer or blender... What I really liked was how fast it made ice. In 30 minutes my ice basket was full! Which means that I could easily set this up and have enough ice for an evening in an hour or less. The cubes were small, which enables them to cool things off quickly (more ice surface area) that larger cubes from a refrigerator. But that also means they can melt more quickly, especially here in Texas! So, I like it better than the ones that make "drive through burger restaurant" ice because that melts too quickly in my area! Will make 44 pounds of ice in a day, so that's like several bags from the store. For a party, that is great! My ice was not crystal clear, but that is due to the extreme hardness of our water. When I made the cubes with bottled water, they were clear. Overall, I like the size of the machine (see pic next to paper towel roll for reference), the size of the cubes (see pic of cube in my hand), the speed of ice making and the price point. The only thing I did not like was the drain plug. I would prefer an on/off valve, but the nylon plug works okay.
